Russian Embassy Hosts State Reception in Kathmandu to Mark Russia Day

Kathmandu — Embassy of the Russian Federation in Nepal hosted an official state reception on June 24 to mark Russia Day, the national holiday of the Russian Federation. The ceremony was held at Dusit Princess Kathmandu.

The event was graced by Nepal’s Vice-President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav as the chief guest. Senior government officials, heads of diplomatic missions, representatives from business and academic sectors, public figures, media personnel, and members of the Russian community in Nepal attended the reception.

In his welcome address, Aleksei V. Surovtsev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Nepal, highlighted the significance of Russia Day as a symbol of Russia’s thousand-year statehood, national unity, and rich historical and cultural heritage.

Ambassador Surovtsev noted that this year carries special importance as Russia and Nepal celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations. He said the long-standing friendship between the two nations is built on goodwill, mutual respect, and strong people-to-people ties. He also emphasized that Russia has always respected Nepal’s sovereign foreign policy based on non-alignment and the principles of Panchsheel.

The Ambassador reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Nepal in diverse sectors including energy, education, tourism, culture, and humanitarian exchanges. He also appreciated Nepal’s diplomatic traditions and its constructive role in regional and global affairs.

He further reiterated Russia’s support for a multipolar world order based on equal and indivisible security, respect for the civilizational identity of nations, and every state’s sovereign right to choose its own path of development.

Ambassador Surovtsev also presented Russia’s vision for constructive international engagement through the Greater Eurasian Partnership and the Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century. He noted that multilateral platforms such as BRICS, Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), and Asia Cooperation Dialogue offer significant opportunities for cooperation with Asian countries, including Nepal.

The evening concluded on a festive note with a captivating musical performance by artists invited from Russia, adding warmth and vibrancy to the celebration.
