Kathmandu, April 15: On
April 15, the "Charming Guangzhou Meets Nepal" city image showcase
event was successfully held in Kathmandu. Over a hundred guests from
government, cultural, tourism, and business sectors of China and Nepal, as well
as local media and youth representatives, attended the event.
In
his address, Wang Xin, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Chinese Embassy in Nepal,
noted that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of
China-Nepal diplomatic relations and the Nepal Tourism Year 2025. Over the past
seven decades, China-Nepal relations have been rooted in the people, nurtured
through mutual trust, and flourished through shared development. Wang
highlighted the deepening cooperation between Guangzhou and Nepal in recent
years across trade, culture, tourism, and education. He expressed hope that the
event would further advance bilateral collaboration, open a new chapter of
mutually beneficial development, and contribute wisdom and strength to regional
and global peace and prosperity.
Du
Xinshan, Member of the Standing Committee and Director General of the Publicity
Department of the CPC Guangzhou Municipal Committee, emphasized Guangzhou’s
role as a pivotal hub along the Maritime Silk Road, embracing the world with
openness and inclusiveness. He described Kathmandu as a vibrant crossroads of
South Asian civilizations, radiating vitality. "At this new starting point
of jointly building the Belt and Road," he said, "China and Nepal
stand side by side, actively exploring fresh opportunities for cooperation."
He called for Guangzhou and Kathmandu to "navigate with trust as the
vessel and innovation as the sail," jointly crafting a new narrative of
friendly exchanges.
Binod
Prakash Singh, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation
of Nepal, remarked that the event showcased Guangzhou’s dynamism and Nepal’s
hospitality. On behalf of Nepal, he extended an invitation to Chinese friends
to explore the nation’s sacred snowy peaks and cultural traditions, while
expressing hope for more Nepali visitors to experience Chinese cities. He
stressed the importance of upholding peace, mutual benefit, and deepened
cultural exchanges, urging both countries to pioneer new dimensions in tourism
collaboration.
At the event, a promotional video highlighting
Guangzhou’s urban charm was screened. The Guangzhou Culture Group delivered
captivating performances, including the Cantonese opera White Dragon
Pass and the acrobatic show Strength and Beauty, which
drew resounding applause from the audience and created a vibrant atmosphere. A
dedicated zone featured cultural-creative displays and Cantonese cuisine
tastings, allowing Nepali attendees to savor the unique flavors of Guangzhou. Over
30 iconic photographs depicting Guangzhou’s transformation from a millennium-old
commercial hub to a modern international metropolis were exhibited.
The
event underscored Guangzhou’s commitment to fostering cultural diplomacy and
people-to-people ties, reinforcing its vision as a global city bridging
traditions and modernity. The event is hosted by the Information Office of
Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government, organized by China Center for
International Communication Development, Guangzhou Culture Group, Guangzhou
Restaurant Group, and MINISO, and co-organized by the CICG Center for Europe
and Asia (China Pictorial Publications).
